This gate holds the regime: the founding measurement, the calendar it imposes, the emergencies it produces, and the pages that unfold each one.
A parasite load with a signature
The founding fact is measured, not asserted. In the 2025 incidence survey of the American Heartworm Society, published April 2026, the Delta and the Gulf Coast sit in the highest band in the country, Mississippi among the top states in the reading; the county maps of the Companion Animal Parasite Council carry the same signature for the tick borne diseases beside it. The unfolding of that number, what the survey measures and what it cannot, is the pillar of this gate: heartworm in the Delta.
The calendar with no month off
Short winters, standing water and mosquitoes active most of the year mean the prevention calendar runs January to December without a dead season. The frame, the annual test, the lapse conversation and the twelve month table are drawn in year round prevention; the decision on product, dose and schedule stays where it belongs, with the treating veterinarian who can read the dog's file. What this gate adds is the Southern arithmetic in one line: the region's shelters meet the untreated end of that arithmetic at intake, which is why an adopted adult dog begins its first month with the test.
The minutes that decide
The same climate that feeds the parasite load produces the two emergencies where the owner's first minutes change what the clinic can do: heatstroke and snakebite. The signs in the order they arrive, the cooling that helps and the cooling that harms, and the drive planned before the day are laid out in heatstroke and snakebite; and because the nearest emergency clinic in much of the region is an hour and a half away, the kit and the route are part of the calendar too. The training year bends around the same sun, and training in hot weather is the page that moves the session instead of canceling it.
How to read a health claim on this gate: every figure carries its publisher and its year, the survey or the map it came from, and no page here names a product, a dose or a schedule. The clinician who sees the dog decides those; the journal supplies the region, the calendar and the sources.
